Sail Date: Mar 2015

My wife and I took a cruise on Royal Princess on March 29, 2015. Prior to leaving, I read several reviews about the ship, most being negatives. After sailing on the ship, my thoughts are somewhat different outcome. From shore, the ship is awesome. I will sail her again. The boarding process was quick and easy. Once on board, I was impressed. Starting with the piazza which is awesome. Lots of room, lots of shops, etc.

Secondly, we had a regular balcony room. Yes, the room is small but really how long do you spend in the room. It meant our needs. It had a larger bathroom, more closet space but less cabinet space. Our balcony was also small. My mother was in the next room and we open the door between our balcony and found that the open door didn't impact our ability to enter our room through the sliding door into the room nor did it reduce the size of the balcony.

The horizon food court has a new design and wow, it sure made access to the food much, much better. It was great. The flow of passengers through the food court is much improved. Food throughout the ship is very good. One of the neat opportunities was the Crab Shack which is offered only one night on the cruise. The $20 fee is well worth the price.

The stateroom room and balcony are small but for our needs, it was fine. Bathroom is a bit larger, the closet is larger, and the cabinets are less and smaller. Also note that on other ships, the main hallway carpet on the port side is normally a different color than on the starboard side to help passengers know what side of the ship their room is located. Not the case on Royal Princess. You have to look at the sign near the elevator to see if you are on the even room number side or the odd number side. So it may take a little time to get use to finding what side of the ship your room is when you get off the elevator.

Port Reviews

Bonaire

Short stay here which was find. Really nothing here that interest us and shopping was limited. Might want to stay on the ship and enjoy the quiet pool deck

Dominica

Wanted to do whale watching but excursion was sold out immediately. Didn't plan any other excursion and just did shopping at the market at the port. Another good day to use the quiet pool deck.

Princess Cays

This is an awesome stop.make sure you get off early but also plan to return to the ship after lunch early to avoid the long lines waiting for the tenders. Great lunch on the beach. The only down side is having to pay for any drink except water and tea provided at lunch. Otherwise, bottle water, soda and beer must be purchased.
