I am a cancer survivor and the cruise was to celebrate my first year 100% cancer free. I took my wife and two sons ages 18 and 21. I am 52 and my wife is 56. This was our first cruise on Royal Caribbean having cruised once before on the Carnival Fascination. Embarkation was pretty painless and I found that to me Port Everglades was much easier to navigate than Port of Miami. Royal Caribbean was much more organized getting on board the ship with people guiding you every step of the way. Very nicely done and quick. But thats just my opinion. We were on the ship by around 11:45am and eating in the Windjammer. We were in the cabin by 1PM and our luggage arrived with no problems after a pretty painless muster drill. We meet our room steward Roberto Madrigal from Costa Rico. Roberto was great and had his own business card with direct line which I thought was a great touch. Roberto made our cruise a wonderful experience and when we left I was actually sad that we had to leave Roberto behind. "My pleasure" was a statement we often heard onboard from Roberto and others onboard the Navigator and I really felt they meant it. Again I have cruised Carnival before and will again. Royal Caribbean's service was just better-a step up from Carnival. First I want to say that the Voyager class is awesome this is one big ship. The Navigator is in beautiful shape and well kept up. We had a balcony cabin on deck 7 with a great view and no signs of the alleged yellow/brown water in our shower or cabin. The cabin itself was pretty much portrayed as you see on Royal Caribbean's website enough room for 4 people. My wife and I had the bed and the sofa rolled out into a bed for my two sons one who is 6"1 and they had enough room for the both of them. Bathroom was small but ok. Amenities were not as good as Carnival. My advice would be to bring your own toothpaste and shampoo. No toothpaste was provided and the stuff in the dispenser in the shower was locker room quality I thought. The food- Was just as good as Carnival's not really better though. Good food and lots of it the Gala Buffet was also very well done and cool to look at. The Windjammer was good I expected a little more from the Jade section, not really a big selection of Chinese/Oriental food but a nice touch. The banana pancakes were very good and Im still running them off. Service in the dining room was very good and the room itself was nothing short of WOW. Food in the dining room was good not better than Carnival but not worse. Every request was honored with no fuss. And my 6'1 30 inch waist son enjoyed eating steak every night. Formal night was great and there was a little less of the goofs you see on Carnival in shorts but I didn't see anyone denied entry because of the way they were dressed. Funny thing though my waiter told me the night before formal that tux's were not required I could dress as we want casual or whatever. Hey I got a nice tux and like to wear it at least once a year so we dressed up. This is part of the deal with formal night I thought. The head waiter blew it on my online request for a birthday celebration for my two sons. I had to pull him aside and check and see if it had been submitted. It had, they just dropped the ball. Thats ok it was taken care of. Nothing extra for the head waiter though in the envelope after. The casino was a waste on the slots but ok if you play cards. Im not a gambler and this is not why I cruise so thats good with me. The ride on this ship was a little rough at times I don't think stabilizers were fixed but it was nothing that amounted to getting sea sick Haircuts for my wife and oldest son were at a reasonable price and very well done by Andrea. We also did the Spa for 2 treatment called The Rasul Spa. You get the spa to yourself with a locked door (nudge nudge wink wink). Plus you get a ton of goodies to rub on each other. Mud treatment, ginger and lime scrub and just a ton of stuff that in itself paid for the price of the 1 hour use of this spa. Its a steam room but you can crack the door if you get to hot. And you can tell when your time is about up because a gentle cool rain starts to fall from above. The only drag was sitting in what they called a meditation room (more of just a public waiting room in the spa. A little uncomfortable sitting in nothing but robes waiting to go into the Rasul spa while you are sitting out in a area with the public walking by (please put the blinds down in this room RC) This was a very welcome time for two since I had my two adult sons with us. We then had a massage for two which was great because the other person waited in this bed that was kinda a water bed that sucked itself around you. Very cool and relaxing. All for under 300.00 American dollars. Great value. yea they try to sell you lots of extra but thats cool I find it easy to say no. Cruise director Kieron was pretty average and thats being kind. I did not find this guy exciting or engaging at all. Carnival topped them here. Shows onboard were great as well. The salute to ABBA/Broadway was cool and well done. The other show on ball room dancing was also very cool. The drummer onbaord here was great very good player. The jazz jam is a must see if you like that kind of music. Ports were both great Grand Caymans we did the Jeep Wrangler tour pretty much just driving around Grand Caymans with a visit to the Town of Hell (my son Steven drove us to Hell and my son Alan drove us out). Nice tour pretty interesting plus driving around the mangroves was pretty cool. At the beach break at the Beach Colony the price for jet ski's was 75.00 per half hour. I thought that was way high but did it anyway. Wear goggles when on these things they flat out haul. I thought I was doing good at 45 mph and then my son Alan flew by me doing about 55. Ocho Rios was absolutely beautiful. I never found myself to be in danger. We did the Shaw Gardens, Dunns River Falls tour. The rain forest and Shaw Gardens was beautiful. It even rained out in the rainforest which was kinda cool. And yes when you have to go through the flea market at the top of Dunns River Falls they are pushy but hey thats how they make their living. No one touched any of us and we just said no and walked on going to the bus After the tour we went back onboard the ship ate and then went back out shopping in Ocho Rios. Both the Island Village, Harbour Shops and Taj Mahal are within easy walking distance and there are some great buys. Got a Jamaican drum for 18 dollars.I was advised by the shopping guru(forgot his name but he was great) not to walk past Sonis shopping center so we did not. No danger felt there ever. .And yes people did try to sell my sons pot but again I just told them to get away and they moved instantly. The bummer about this was that I smelled quite a bit of pot being smoked onboard after we sailed out from Jamaica when I was out on my balcony. But o well let others take their chances. Days at sea were good and the ice shows are a must see. Even though this ship is huge I never felt that it was crowded always plenty of places to lay out and the Solarium was a great place to chill out. The shows and parades in the Royal Promenade were great but it was very crowded and hard to see everything. But hey we made the most of it . I had set up to have the tips taken off automatically fro my sea pass/credit card but then still had to put coupons in envelopes. I think Carnival has a better system here. Disembarkation- We did the express departure. Can you hear me scream from here? A great idea but lots of room for improvement. We were in port 1 hour late because of a medical emergency which side tracked us to the Bahamas. But there was nothing express about this departure. We were out off our rooms by 8 am but not off the ship until after 10:30 am. All four of us had our luggage in tow and waited quite sometime out on deck before being escorted finally off the ship back down the stairs. Then walking by all the luggage neatly stacked and very well organized. I did the express because of the mess I experienced getting off the Fascination. I will leave luggage out night before next time to avoid the long wait and hassle. Going through customs was pretty quick and painless. We drove and parked at the port which was 15.00 a day All in all a great cruise and I will do Royal Caribbean again on Oasis of the Seas next December.

Cabin Review

Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D1

We had cabin 7650 deck seven on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas. It was a balcony cabin. 40 square foot balcony lots of room. We had four in the room never felt crowded. The only bummer was the sofa bed that my sons slept in. Wish we would have had two pull down beds because navigating to the path to the bathroom at night was a bit of a pain. The bed was big enough for my two 18,21 year old sons but took up a lot of space. The bathroom was good did not think the amenties were as good on RC as on Carnival but all in all it was a good value. Closet space was awesome here.
