Royal Princess is a lovely, beautiful ship. It's atrium and Piazza area are spectacularly beautiful. The Horizon Court and Horizon Bistro are equally impressive. But that's about it. Here are some things to know before taking a cruise on the ship. If none of these issues bother you, you will have a pretty good time.
1. There are no stairs above deck 7 mid-ship. Only elevators. If you need to go from deck 15 to deck 16 you need to wait for the elevator or walk to either end of the ship. Elevators mid ship often took a long time to stop on certain floors. Only stairs to staterooms are forward and aft.
2. There is no deck that goes entirely around the ship. Nor can passengers access the forward portion of the ship. The sanctuary is at the front so you pay to go there. The promenade deck stops half way and is only for crew beyond a certain point. Deck 18 has a jogging track that encircles the ship half way. You cannot walk totally around this ship on any deck. Impossible...
Lovely quaint port. Not much to do but it is nice and pretty. Easy distance to walk from ship to downtown. I hear it's good for diving and snorkeling. It was clean and no one bothered you on shore.
Crowded and people begging everywhere. One of the poorer islands. Pretty but not my favorite because of the poverty. Ship docks in town, easy to walk to.
Ship docked first time in Crown Bay, quiet and secluded with taxis to get you around. Second time docked in main harbor of Charlotte Amalie. Went to nearest beach, Morningstar on the Marriot Hotel. Lovely with chairs to rent and umbrellas to rent.
Princess Cays is very nice. Great water, lots to do (for a cost) but very, very nice. Beware, almost everyone goes ashore. Takes about 2-2.5 hours to tender everyone off ship. Tendering is easy-they won't take wheelchairs or scooters. You must be able to walk on to the tender. Port stay too short.
