We have traveled with Princess several times but this was our first experience on the Emerald. We were in a mini-suite which we believe is the best value for the amount of space you receive. We like the layout of the Royal Princess much better than the Emerald. The space in more functional. The Royal has a desk/dresser where you can put clothes away and out of site and a room divider if you're sharing living space. The Emerald has a rounded console that has open space to store items but seems to take up more space with less function. The Royal has two large screen wall mounted T.V.'s with on demand function. We did not realize how much we utilized this features until we sailed on the Emerald. We greatly missed the feature plus the rebroadcast Princess Live shows.

The ship was clean and tidy and our steward, China, always kept everything immaculate. We still have not been overwhelmed with the food on Princess (except Crown Grill $25 pp surcharge) but appreciate the variety and flexibility. The entertainment was lacking and reminded me of a weak high school production.

We will never embark from Houston again. We had to fly in the day before and it was very costly getting to the port and the local hotels did not provide shuttle service like they do in Ft. Lauderdale. In retrospect, we should have stayed near the airport at a hotel that offered shuttle service and went back to the airport the next day to utilize the Princess transfer (that would have been a steal compared to what we ended up paying).
