I seldom take the time to write reviews, but having read many reviews about the Epic before I took my trip, and having been surprised by the number of negative reviews, I felt like I'd like to contribute something here, that might help to re-assure others who might be affected by the negative comments.
I have been on many cruises, and some are better than others, but I can honestly say, I have never been on a cruise that I didn't like. Maybe it has something to do with expectations, or maybe I'm just not a very fussy person, but I thought the Epic was a great ship and I had a great cruise experience. Many have made comments about the staff, but I found everyone to be nice and friendly.
I was a solo traveler, and this is the first time I have taken a trip like this alone. The studio cabins were what drew me to this ship, as well as the freestyle concept, which I felt would e easier for me, traveling solo.
Loved the studio rooms. I will do this again. The studio lounge has a great coffee machine for a daily latte, which I enjoyed. This is a benefit for solo travelers. Anywhere else on the ship, there is a charge for specialty coffee's.
I personally do not care for this port. In my experience some of the locals are simply too aggressive, in trying to get you to buy things. I did get off the ship and walk around a bit, but did not go into town and i did not take an excursion.
I did not tender in on this trip, choosing instead, to enjoy the ship. I have been before though and would highly recommend 7 Mile Beach or an excursion to snorkel at Stingray City.
If you enjoy shopping for jewellery this is a great port. Also many shops to pick up gifts and souvenirs. I enjoyed local salsa and tacos which were very good!
Mexico does offer some good snorkeling as well.
