We just completed a French river cruise, Chalon-sur-Saone to Avignon, aboard ms River Discovery II owned by Vantage Travel of Boston MA. Our experience was extremely poor and would not and could not recommend Vantage Travel to anyone.

The average age on the boat was in the mid-eighties, we had two legally blind travelers, about a dozen with walkers, and about 50 with walking canes, few had Parkinson’s, others had dementia, we even had a bi-polar traveler. Yet the elevator was out of order during the entire cruise, no attempt was made by the company to repair it or assist the handicapped folks on the stairs. I am aware of six (6) passengers that fell down the staircase and needed external medical treatment. Vantage Travel should have known that it is a floating nursing home and the elevator safe operation is top priority.

The food on board was basic American; we did not have a single French meal during the 10 days on board. Even the pastries were American; donuts and cup cakes. One positive note, we did have wine with dinner; it was not as good as Trader’s Joe but I am sure Vantage selected the best wine one can purchase for under $2 per bottle.
