Sail Date: Mar 2015

We are seasoned travelers having sailed on Holland America, Crystal Cruises and now Silversea. We saved the "best" for our 35th anniversary celebration, choosing a Southern Caribbean itinerary. We have sailed the Caribbean many times but never on an "ultra luxury" ship, which was the designation in all the literature of Silversea and particularly Silver Cloud. Our embarkation was uneventful, quick and easy mostly because of the number of passengers on this ship; we sailed with a full 296 passengers.

Our first night we chose the La Terrazza venue. We couldn't have had a more negative experience; the food orders were almost all wrong (we sailed with friends), the quality was comparable to fast food chains and the service was appalling. Water was nowhere, we were never even served our drink orders. We just assumed it was because of the guest turnaround on our first day of the cruise. The crew has so much to do that day so we let it go.

Our first night in the Owner's Suite; we met our butler who was very professional and very caring throughout our journey. We loved the new bathroom with the walk in shower and tub. I chose, of course, the Bulgari soaps. We thought we were in the lap of luxury. It was a fool's paradise; that night we had such a scraping noise in the ceiling that I couldn't sleep at all. So much for the "ultra luxury" title. Beyond the noise in the ceiling there was also a banging noise from somewhere (we later found out that the pool equipment was located directly adjacent to our suite!) and the scraping of the chairs and loud pounding on the deck above as the pool deck was readied for the day. Besides this the mattress was never turned to the soft side and my hips paid the price.

Cabin Review

Cabin OS

Cabin showed signs of wear even though it had been refurbished a few years ago. There was a stitch along the top of the couch, wood furniture had gouges and nicks and dings. The cabin was a nice design with the doors able to close off the bedroom, bathroom and living room.

Port Reviews

Dominica

This cruise line should have thought of saving this port for another day on a 7 day cruise; the town was closed on Sundays! Once we were off the ship we were followed by groups of men who wanted to take us somewhere in a taxi. Finally, an officer showed up and told us we should probably go back to the ship. All in all a negative experience.
