Just returned from our cruise on the Pride of America. We found the ship to be very clean and well maintained. They seemed very organized and had security measures in place making sure that ID was checked before anyone was allowed even near the ship. This was our third cruise and second time in Hawaii. We had a balcony cabin and the space was fine for two people. Our cabin steward was outstanding. He always had a greeting and a smile.
This ship is used as a "floating hotel". It does not have fancy rock climbing walls, huge pools and surf riders like some of the ships that are "at sea". I would estimate that 95% of all passengers leave the ship when it is in port. It sails in the evening and night and pulls in around 7 am every morning. The only time we were "at sea" was the last day when we left Kauai at 2 pm and sailed past the fantastic Napali coast decorated with a rainbow. Just beautiful!
We arrived the day before the cruise and stayed at the Park Shore, a well priced hotel in a great location across from Waikiki Beach next to the Honolulu Zoo on the Diamond Head side of the beach. Saturday we boarded the ship around 2:30 and our cabin was ready by 3:30. The ship sails at 7 pm, everyone has to be on board by 5 pm.
