I have been on lots of amazing cruises and cruise ships but I have just returned from a rather exhausting, expensive budget class holiday. I had carefully planned two rooms, away from lifts, laundry and in between floors but had two vibrating and noisy rooms. (constant low pitch sound ending in a thud) Thankfully we were moved after the third night into the rooms we expected first time round. Then the key card kept failing on both rooms,so we had endless trips to the reception. ( they said it was electronic equipment or clips on bags but I had neither)

We were mid ship, which had no stairs! Who designs a ship this size with no central stairwell? It was a game of sardines,if you were lucky enough to get a lift, however two broke down rather quickly (in mid) and remained that way throughout the cruise. One would not open at 16,where the pools ,buffet restaurant, grill and grab and go were. Alternatively it was a long trek and a long way up the stairs. However I felt sorry for anyone who had to rely on the lifts and they often waited some time for a gap.

Our cabin Steward ( who I have no permission to name) was excellent and the Peninsular restaurant special dietary manager was friendly and never forgot me. We never had to wait for freedom dining. However the food was not the standard I was expecting, especially with all the hype. Had much better. The kids club could not be faulted and the staff work extremely hard. My daughter had her birthday on board and she was made a real fuss of. The cake we ordered was fantastic value and they sang to her, both in the kids club and restaurant. I must not forget the balloons and card from the captain. Thank you.Brodie's bar became the favourite place for my partner and son and it had an excellent choice of beers! ( slightly pricey)

Tenerife

You can take a tram to ,La Laguna unesco world heritage site. It is easy, clean and 1.35 ( euro) each way. Valley of the gardens is a lovely tour, available on many ships.
