This was our 11th cruise. It was a no brainer selection given that we live in the Bay Area and my vacation (spring break) was this week only. There were no 4 person inside cabins so we booked two inside cabins and later upgraded via an offer Princess made to Balcony cabins. I will say the Balcony is a spoiler now because the weather was wonderful for Spring and just enjoying the ocean from the balcony was wonderful.
The good:
Food was overall Good. I only had two sub par entree's the entire time. Several items were quite tasty. I know it is a little thing, but the bacon at the buffet was crisp and the omelet process whereby they deliver to your table made things a breeze.
B608 was a good location for us being fairly close to kids club. This was our first Balcony experience. Although we have cruised 11 times, we have been the bargain hunters, always having inside cabins. They offered us a cheap upgrade this time and we took it. It kinda spoiled us, especially since we had 2 cabins next to each other which open balcony so we could go from one room to the other via the balcony. Everything worked. Large closet space. Worked great for us but still a typical stateroom in terms of bathroom etc.
Long Beach. The cruise port is not very central. Queen Mary is there but everything else is more than a walk away. The lines for the shuttle were nearly an hour long.
I am biased and love this city. Public transit works great with the trolley system. Balboa park has wonderful museums and is beautiful in and of itself. There is huge childrens park right across the street from the cruise port. Also the Maritime museum is right next to the port where several historic ships and the HMS Suprise recreation from Master and Commander is docked.
