I went on the Celebrity Summit leaving from San Juan, Puerto Rico last month, and had a wonderful time spending water-activity-filled time on gorgeous sunny beaches. This was a welcomed escape from the snow storms back home and truly an amazing first wedding anniversary celebration. Both my husband and I found this to be the escape we were looking for, enjoying the deliciously exquisite meals that we had previously experienced on Celebrity when we went on the European cruise leaving from Barcelona for our honeymoon last year. I do have to mention, however, that while the main dining and common areas were very nice, the room was a constant reminder that this was an older ship.

While we spent most of the time in our room on our previous cruise on the Equinox spending time on the beautiful balcony, this ship (Celebrity Summit) had a balcony floor that was rusted and dirty and could not be walked on barefoot, making our time on the balcony sparse. Considering that we were on a Caribbean cruise was unfortunate. There were other hints in our room that showed the true age of the ship such as rust on the shower curtain rungs or the crack in the wall in our shower which were such odd things to return to daily when the rest of the ship was so beautiful and clean. I would like to point out that the service in our concierge class room was excellent, and it was not a factor of daily cleanups, but one of a dated ship where the details of the room were not tended to during a refurb that clearly had focused on the areas where people congregate. However, considering how many times one frequents their room as part of the cruise experience I was a bit taken aback.

As mentioned earlier, the food was exquisite. I was truly impressed by the level of quality for each meal we ate, and while I had thought about trying a for-fee restaurant on the ship, decided that the quality was so high in the dining rooms there was no need this time around. The steaks and red meat were cooked to perfection and the salads were refreshing and delicious. I would certainly like to sail on Celebrity knowing what great quality meals I will be receiving as a nice break from cooking!

Cabin Review

Concierge Class 2

Cabin C2

The service was great, but the actual cabin was a disaster. I never thought I would be put off by accommodations on a cruise, since all of my experiences have been wonderful and you acknowledge that the room will be a bit tight, but as mentioned in my full review, this was the worst part of a good cruise. The balcony was particularly bad. There were odd loose and rusty portions of the balcony floor, making one unable to walk barefoot on it. This made us spend very little time on the balcony at all, which is a waste considering the fees associated with it, and gorgeous the views are from it. Additionally, our last cruise on the Celebrity Equinox and other cruises had such beautiful balconies we spent many hours on them taking in the breathtaking scenery.

Also, the showers were designed in an odd fashion where there is a clingy shower curtain with rusty rings at the top, a crack in the wall below the shower head, and the inability to stand and take a shower without touching the clingy curtain (I am 5'4'' and very average/athletic build), and cannot imagine what it would be like for folks that are taller and wider.

While I like the cruise line, this aspect (the Celebrity Summit cruise cabin) will make it unlikely for me to return to this ship in the future.
