This was our first Celebrity cruise, and it won't be our last. We had a Concierge cabin (8169). It was quiet, comfortable and attractive. The housekeeping was incredible -- we arrived to champagne and apples beautifully arranged (the fruit came every day and was great with wine and cheese I'd bring from the cafe). No matter what the room looked like when we exited in the morning, we came back to clean and serene surroundings.
Our booking came with a beverage package included but we chose to upgrade for $10 per day to the premium package. That allowed us to get drinks from the martini bar and better cocktails and wine from the lounges, bars and restaurants.Totally worth it if you're a drinker.
The food was terrific, but (disclaimer) we didn't eat in the dining room. The healthy food in the Aqua Spa cafe, the crepes and lighter fare of Bistro on 5 and the classic French in Normandie were more our thing (I bought a dining package beforehand to save a little money). However, Q-sine, which so many were raving about, was not that big a deal to us -- the presentation was inventive, but ordering on an iPad and eating sushi from lollypop sticks struck us as a little gimmicky. Food was fine but not outstanding (we have excellent tapas restaurants where we live).
It was quiet, comfortable and attractive. Bed felt good, robes were lux, and the veranda was a plus. Temp control very good. Closet / drawer space perfectly adequate. The housekeeping was incredible -- we arrived to champagne and apples beautifully arranged (the fruit came every day and was great with cheese I'd bring from the cafe). It's expensive, but stay in Old San Juan. That's where the restaurants, shopping, bars, etc. are. The cobbled streets are cool. However, if you stay in the SJ Suites, understand that they are really spartan, beds are hard and they are NOT suites -- unless you think it's okay for the "sitting room" to have a toilet in it.
We went on our own here -- got a cab to the Domino club and watched the beer-drinking pigs. Frederickstad, where the ship docks, is not much. I understand that Christenstad has a lot more to see, do, eat and buy.
The Saint Kitts excursions were kinda pricey and I was on crutches so not sure I'd have been up to them. But my husband found us a trip with David Brandy and his minivan (12 of us altogether I think). One of the best tours I've had and for $20 a person. We saw and did more than those who'd paid ten times that for the rail tour.
I'd been to Saint Thomas before and remember it very differently -- much livelier. Maybe there is more than one cruise port? Then, it was more of a marketplace, narrower streets, with lively places to shop and eat. This was more like strip malls selling expensive jewelry. Perfume was more expensive than I pay here, ditto with alcohol (disclaimer -- we live in NV). Could not even get a beer because it was Good Friday (really?!). I almost bought a pendant (larimar and topaz) that the seller wanted $450 for, then he dropped the price to $360. My husband suggested I check ebay before forking over $ and I found several identical for $65 including shipping. Don't assume ST is a bargain paradise because it isn't, and once shopping is off the table there isn't a whole lot to do in the port.
