This was going to be our 9th cruise, third on NCL, first on the Jewell. There were plenty of activities to do on the ship. Plenty of food to eat as well. The food was average. I expected more of a variety in the dinning rooms. Food was good though. In the main dinning rooms, service was a little slow, dinner took about 2 hours at dinner services, dinning room was not even half full. Ports were good, Cozumel, Honduras, Belize.
This was the fist time that we left from a Texas port. I will NEVER leave from a Texas port again. We were told that when you buy alcohol, it is duty free. You can buy 3 liters per person duty free. THIS IS NOT TRUE. As soon as you get through with deportation and you get ready to walk out the exit door, there are people standing there asking if you have bought Alcohol or cigarette's. Then you have to go to Texas tables and PAY for buying liquor & cigarette's. THESE TWO ITEMS ARE TAXED IN TEXAS SO IT COSTS YOU THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY AS IN A STORE. Then when you go to the airport you have to pay the airlines for special liquor packages. So actually this liquor COST US MORE than buying it in a store and having the hassel of transporting it back home. My advice on buying liquor, DON'T. Leaving from a Texas port, DON'T.
The cruise part was great, afterwards was not.
Cabin was nice, the usual size. Room service was there to clean the room promptly. Nothing special about the room.
We walked though a small porting of the city and shopped at a 2 block area where the locals were selling items. Then we returned to the cruise shopping area and walked around there. The items in this location were priced for tourists. The local shopping area was much lower in price. The locals appreciate when you buy from them.
