Ugh! This was our fifth cruise. When housekeeping is the best thing about your cruise, you've got a problem (Arvin -- you were wonderful and saved our trip). We felt like we were held captive while NCL tried to squeeze every extra dime out of us -- and did so while allowing chaos and providing lousy service. Desk people NEVER smiled. Dining staff in the beautiful Versailles room wanted us in and out as soon as possible -- with one exception (thank you, Jewell). Only time we were treated to a pleasant dining experience was when we paid extra. Service was good, food was okay.
Evening stage shows were very good. No complaints there, but the rest of staff was so lax at enforcing rules that it truly was a free-for-all. Dangerous pool deck conditions -- 800-plus children and NO ONE supervising the pool areas to ensure children used the pools and slides properly. Saw plenty of pile-ups and children trying intentionally to drown each other. Young adults, teens and children all running in the hallways without staff members ever telling them to slow down and respect other guests. Saw the elderly and disabled nearly knocked over. Awful. And the thing is, I know with certainty, the staff does not care. Case in point: the theatre reserves seats for the elderly and disabled. Every show able-bodied adults took those seats. I asked a member of the entertainment staff about it; response: We' DON'T intervene.
Well, I DON'T sail with irresponsible cruise lines who care more about the strong than the elderly and weak. I am able-bodied and I will spend my money with cruise lines that create a safe and restful environment for everyone. You make the rules, you enforce them. If not, get out of the cruise business.
Cabin was actually great -- lovely ship. Too bad those running it are irresponsible.
