This was my 3rd sailing on the ms Veendam, the first since her refurbishment and second Mexican Riviera cruise. Embarkation in San Diego is always a pleasant experience as it's close to our home in Arizona and it's a quick trip from airport to dock. The embarkation crew was excellent and very friendly.

Once on board we went to our Veranda Suite, on the Veranda deck towards the stern of the ship. The suite was tight but clean and bright. There were a few issues with the suite from the get go that took some work on our part to get the Front Desk to get things made right. If you travel with any medical equipment requiring an electrical outlet be warned there is ONE plus in the suite and it is on the combo desk/vanity table. Both my partner and I use CPAP at night and had to request a "strip" from the Front Desk. Once it was delivered it was a regular electrical strip with a 3 foot cord. Great for my partner sleeping on that side of the suite but I had to do some odd arranging of my side at night in order to sleep - move the stool from the vanity table to the end of the bed and place the CPAP on the stool and STRETCH the CPAP hose as far as possible. Interesting for my hours of sleep. The more critical issue was the lack of air conditioning in the suite. By the 4th day of the 7 Night sail we had a suite that was comfortable. The entire ship was warm and the Rotterdam stern tables were very warm for the first couple of evenings.

Dining on the Veendam was a mixed bag. The Lido was always swamped, after all it was Spring Break, and the food lines long at times. The Rotterdam Dining Room was a great breakfast place in order to avoid the crowded Lido and dinners were nice. We did purchase the Admiral Wine Package and were satisfied with the wines on offer. The Dining Room staff were excellent. We had dinner at Canalleto on night and were very pleased but truly the Pinnacle Grill is the dining experience on the Veendam.
