I was looking for a cheap escape for a weekend and that is what I got. Travelling solo with an interior room, you couldn't beat the $200 rate for the three day cruise to Ensenada.
Make no mistake, this ship is old and shows wear. The carpet in my room had small tears and stains. The ship activities are bare bones, unless, like at least half of the passengers, you are there to drink, sun, drink, party, drink, and stay up late. This was a weekend cruise and it seemed like most of the passengers were there as part of bachelor/bachelorette/birthday parties. Kept things lively.
Ensenada isn't the most exciting place to stop but it felt safe. The town has a decent sized tourist area of bars and shops for the tourists.
I had read that this cabin couldn't accommodate the two beds being pushed together into one large bed, but this was not the case. The room is sideways relative to other cabins and has a post in one corner. The carpet had small tears and stains. You hear a lot of engine noise when pulling into port due to its location in the front of the ship. For the weekend cruise, it was fine.
A little confusing to get to by car. I was being dropped off (flew into LAX) and the road that you turn down looks like a service road. You have to enter the paid parking area to be dropped off - the first 30 minutes are free. Beyond that, it's a cattle call though the building has high ceilings and maintained well so you don't feel crammed in.
Without an excursion, there isn't much to do other than go into town, walk around, have lunch, maybe shop, and come back. Paying $50 or so to see a blowhole wasn't my idea of a day well spent. The tourist area is in decent condition, just stay on the beaten path. If you are in decent physical condition, walking rather than the $3 bus is not demanding.
