Arrival/Embarkation/Departure : We arrived at The Port of Miami and parked in ramp C directly across from the terminal and were in line shortly after 10 am the day of departure. The line had already formed and by the time we got through security and our boarding number we were in group 9. Boarding was very smooth with us noting that Terminal B started the boarding process prior to terminal C.

Stateroom : (8130 - mini-suite w/ large balcony) A very nice room with an awesome balcony. The bed is closest to the balcony. Lots of storage for 4 persons luggage and personal belongings. We had about 18 hangers and then many more were left from people using laundry service (somewhere around 40). More than enough room for the 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 - 11 year olds. Things noted are that there isn't a toothbrush holder (used a glass and the bag we packed it in). The lights/shelving units don't hold papers very well without something in front of them. Also the step /in/out of the bathroom was larger than normal which meant several of us tripped in and out a couple of times. Also of note due to having to make up time for returning to port we were traveling fast and had fairly high winds. During the night our room ceiling and walls "creaked" and groaned which made for 3 days of not very good sleep. Our stateroom steward (Nancy) was very attentive and responded fairly quickly to requests. As a result she was rewarded for those items. The room was clean on boarding and kept that way through the trip. The balcony seemed not to get quite the same attention, having found a dress form a child somewhere above us on the balcony and a towel laid out there for a couple days (from our son).

Getaway : We found the ship to be a beautiful Lady. We did note that in comparison to the EPIC that it seemed more compartmental than say the EPIC, but most of the issues most everyone who has sailed on the EPIC and disliked on the EPIC had been corrected on the Getaway. Being on the 8th deck we found that we were pretty central to most anywhere we wanted to go on the ship. One of our fellow cruiser's didn't care for the fact that none of the decks allowed one to walk entirely around the ship. We utilized the pool area, water park, rope course, buffet, restaurants, casino and various theaters. We believe the ship is a 8.5 out of 10 stars.

Port Reviews

Miami

parking is easy to get to but it is a little expensive, we love the new tunnel to the port. As always in and out works out just fine, Going through security is quick and easy. Check in takes a little time but is not a problem.
