We wanted an inexpensive winter get away, so we decided to try an inside stateroom from Baltimore (driving distance) and to treat ourselves to the speciality restaurants with the savings. For this itinerary, we didn't miss the balcony (ok a little). We like the Vision class -previously did a full Panama Canal crossing on the Legend.
We were lucky, being there when the parking lot opened made for a very smooth and speedy boarding. Those caught in the snowstorm that started late morning were not so lucky! The snow covered deck made this departure quite memorable. Port of Baltimore was also the fastest, nicest customs we have been through in any US port (air, sea or land).
Frankly, this was my "Gluttony Cruise". My wife signed us up for the "Ultimate Dining" package when we boarded due to the great Chef Table experience we had on the Serenade last year. Fantastic decision! The package included Chef's Table, Chops & Giovanni's with a 25% discount for Izumi's for $90.00 per person. This was our first go with Chops, Giovanni's and Izumi, and we were delighted with all three venues. The aged strip steak at Chops, the gnocchi in blue cheese sauce at Giovanni's and the soup trio at Chefs Table were our nirvana moments. Don't be shy, these restaurants are well worth the up-charge!
Here we wandered on our own and did some shopping. Mostly buying alcohol at the duty free shop. Their prices were better than the on board specials.
Didn't get off the ship. Stayed on the ship. Didn't get off the ship. Stayed on teh ship. This 150 character requirement seems a bit much! Didn't get off the ship.
This is where our cruise both began and ended. I will say that this was the smoothest experience we have ever had either beginning or ending a cruise! This is a wonderful port, and we hope to sail from here many more times.
