My husband and I have cruised 10 times in the past and on several cruiselines. We chose the Caribbean Princess for the Canada, New England Cruise due to our excellent experiences on Princess in Alaska and the Caribbean. What a disappointment this cruise turned out to be. We had sailed on the sister ship Grand Princess in the Caribbean and found it to be large but well managed and friendly. Caribbean Princess is a mismanaged ship. The only positive about the cruise was the embarkation which proved to be efficient and welcoming. We found our balcony cabin on Riviera deck to be clean and comfortable with plenty of closet space. However, this level does get a great deal of noise from the Lido deck above. We chose anytime dining and found it difficult to get reservations, you are only allowed to reserve two days in advance. The dining rooms simply do not accommodate the number of passengers aboard. The quality of the dining room food was not good but we found Sabatinis and The Steak House to be excellent. We were surprised to find the buffets had no hand sanitizers available and that the food handlers did not wear gloves when touching the food. Midway during the cruise we noticed the hand sanitizers appeared and the staff wearing gloves. We also noticed the dining rooms were half empty. The Captain announced there was Norovirus onboard and gave instructions on hygiene and the number to call if you got sick. I was unfortunately one of many passengers and crew that got the virus. The ship nurse was prompt and gave me a shot and medicine and called to check on my progress. I was quarantined for 36 hours and missed our scheduled tours. I understand there were 132 cabins quarantined but I believe many more passengers were ill due to the numbers missing in public areas and dining facilities. This ship also had some mechanical difficulties that caused continued tremors and a rough ride throughout the cruise. We were told the prop had problems. For such a large ship it was tossed around in the rough seas like a smaller one and the tour in Maine was canceled due to the excuse that it was too rough for the boats to make it in. Most passengers did not believe this explanation as Newport had been equally rough and we made it in to port for our tours just fine. All in all the ship was a disappointment. The crew was not friendly or helpful. It was not clean in the public restrooms or the buffet dining areas. There is not enough shipboard activities to keep the passengers happy when at sea. When we disembarked we, passengers who had been sick were herded into the Casino where we waited an hour without proper seating while the ship cleaned our rooms before letting us off. There were many sick people lying on floors including children and old people. We were not given any help to our buses with our baggage and many elderly had to struggle with their bags to reach their buses. We have loved Princess in the past but will not cruise with them again due to this experience. I would not recommend this ship and I would not go by the CDC rating as it has not been updated since the latest outbreak of norovirus onboard.

Cabin Review

Riviera Deck is too noisey from the Lido deck above.
