We just got back from our first cruise with NCL and will probably be our last. This was only our 3rd time cruising but we will definitely go back to "normal" cruising.
The ship was very nice, clean and room decor was nice we liked the bathroom (roomy shower). Getting on and off the ship went very smoothly all around (embarkation-disembarkation and ports of call).
The food in the main dining room in evening - horrible. I think they do this on purpose in order to get you to the cover charge restaurants. So we only ate there once. The dinner buffet in Garden Cafe much better, so if you are looking to save some money on the addl cover charges, try there. Cagney's Steakhouse was very good and service was good. The Italian place was good but service was SLOW and borderline rude. We had sushi and that was good and refreshing change from normal cruise fare (again addl cover though). I do think that there daily breakfast and lunch buffets were good though. Also, the "freestyle" thing can be a little stressful. We had to decide where, when, would there be lines checking the "status boards" throughout the ship or wait in a line to reserve a table, or worrying about canceling or paying a fee, whew. We all decided we would rather be told what time for dinner each night and show up to the same servers each night.
