November 1, 2008, flew from Dallas to San Juan. There were 6 couples in our group. Plane did not crash so we were off to a good start. Stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites. Good room at a fair price and the staff was very friendly and helpful. For dinner, we walked to our right out of the hotel, past the cock fighting arena, to a local restaurant. The food and service was very good and the prices were comparable to those at home.
The next morning we took a taxi to the ship. The embarkation was total chaos and confusion. Such is life. After a couple of hours we boarded the ship. The AOS is an enormous ship, the largest we had ever sailed on. It was immaculately clean, and once aboard, the service was excellent. This level of service was exemplified throughout the entire cruise from the wait staff in the buffet, to the dining room, as well as the room stewards. The food was excellent everywhere on the ship and the dining facilities were always clean.
Our cabin was on level 8 about mid-ship. From this location everything is at your fingertips. For a ship this size, it was very easy to navigate.
Promanade room-adequate space, great view of the promanade area. Beds were very comfortable. The a/c does not blow but rather oozes from the ceiling vent. The room could have been a little cooler, but it was okay. I miss the blowing sound. I really liked the fact that the shower had a door rather than just a curtain. Overall, it was a very nice room.
