We are in our 50's and this cruise was our 39th anniversary gift to ourselves. This was our 16th cruise overall but our first transatlantic. Cut to the chase...it was our best cruise ever!

We booked our Delta flight on www.ticketstoeurope.com non-stop from JFK to Venice. Upon arrival we caught the blue bus (3 euros) to Piazzale Roma and from there it was a short walk to Hotel Dalla Mora which we found on www.tripadvisor.com. It was perfect for our 1-night pre-cruise stay. Venice was just as we remembered as we had lived in Europe in the 70's and early 80's and had visited several times before. This was true of all the ports we visited; the only change we could see was that everyone carried a cell phone, even the gondoliers. Otherwise things seemed just as they were then.

We boarded the ship the next day and it took around 45 minutes from the time we turned in our luggage to the time we entered our stateroom. Very smooth process. Since we had cruised on the Crown, her sister ship, the Emerald seemed like home and we settled right in. Princess balcony staterooms are smaller than their counterparts on RCCL and Carnival but ours was sufficient for our needs. The ship is only a year or so old so everything was pristine and kept spotless by a tireless crew.
