We booked a last minute deal for a 3 day weekend getaway, grabbing one of the last oceanview staterooms at a bargain price of $119, but after taxes, surcharges and gratuities, it ended up being $500 for the two of us. Before we left I read many recent horror stories on this board about this ship and went in with an open mind, hoping for the best. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and could not validate most of the complaints that I had seen. In our 50's, this was about our 10th cruise and the first time on Norwegian. We have probably done an equal number of trips between RCCL, Carnival and Celebrity. I have been in smaller cabins than what the Sky has and while the number and size of drawers is somewhat limited, it was adequate for a 3 or even 4 day trip. The buffet food while typical was not bland or cold and was glad to see that they have not gone the route of other cruise lines having separate "stations" where people seem to aimlessly wander about bumping into one another. While it was just ok and had to be sweetened, the only fountain beverage they provided (outside of water) was iced tea. I would have rather had punch or lemonade. We did not eat in any of the premium restaurants, yet this seemed to be the trend with many guests as they did seem to fill up with reservations. The food and service in the main dining rooms was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the intimate freestyle dining experience. While somewhat on the small side I was surprised to see lobster tail offered one night. We did manage to eat everynight at about the same time (7PM) and while we were immediately seated every night and half of the tables were empty, we found there to be a considerable wait on the last night. Even though the premium restaurants were all booked. Couldn't figure out where everybody came from. The shows were generally short and the comedian was just ok, but enjoyed the band, dancers and singers. The "rockin 70's" show on the last night was very good. Probably my biggest complaint involved their private island. Unless you were on one of the first 2 or 3 tenders to come ashore, the only seating that was available was uncomfortable beach chairs. They had maybe 200 chaise lounges and 3000 uncomfortable beach chairs. Guess what got snagged first? It appeared that there was the same inconsiderate nonsense going on with these lounge chairs as you typically see around the pools. People go out bright and early and "reserve" chairs with their blankets, bags and goodies and then disappear. By lunch time we had our fill of the beach and went back to the ship so I can't comment on their barbecue. All in all it was a very pleasant trip.
