Sept Alaska adventure

Sail Date: September 2008
Destination: Alaska
Embarkation: Vancouver

GOOD: very nice room but it was also the penthouse AC suite- 4 roommates, huge balcony, excellent layout for 4 people. Bring your own air mattress- the pullout bed is horrible. Suite had living room and separate bedroom and 2 TV's. Both rooms had separate access to balcony, bathroom and front door to come/go without disturbing the other roommates. Cost for this suite for 4 persons was the same if we had 2 regular balcony rooms.

GOOD: Excellent cabin steward.

BAD tiny buffet layout, very few tables. Bad design- very long lines- angry customers

BAD paying for specialty restaurants- 8 on this ship. Never went to any. We paid enough already, thank you NCL.

GOOD Regular dining rooms with excellent service and food. Anytime dining is the best. More cruiselines are giving this option so we are not stuck with NCL and the expensive other restaurants.

BAD Very small fitness area for a ship this size.

BAD Tiny show theatre. More Looks like the ship's design provided many more money making cabins for NCL and shorted the services like theatre, fitness center and other areas. Bad decision on their part, I will avoid this ship specifically due to these issues.

GREAT Great shows- comedienne Don Yanetti, Pierre something magician- excellent!!!!!! Cat's Pajamas singers were great, too.

BAD Other NCL ships have 24hr machines with expresso, mocha, capuccino, etc in many places on ship. This had only coffee.

BAD getting off in San Francisco. VERY LONG lines and angry people.

BAD BAD BAD No naturalist or lecturer for Alaskan Cruise. I was embarrassed because I had assured my roommates- who had never been to Alaska- the ship would provide great commentators to explain what we were seeing. On my previous trips with Princess and Celebrity, great commentators were present and made the trips very special. NCL had one Alaska lecture scheduled- the presenter did not make it and it was not removed from the daily newsletter, so lots of pissed off people were in the lecture room!!!

BAD tiny, ugly pool and pool area. Stark white/gray area like a military ship. Never have I seen such an unattractive pool area on a cruise ship!!

BAD Very short times in ports- only 6 hrs, often very early like 0600-noon. Clearly this ship had the leftover Alaska itinerary.

BAD Very expensive drinks- Margarita $9 with tip- had only one. Would have had many and they would have made some money off me if it was not so ridicules. Cruises with Celebrity and Princess- $5-6 for same thing.

GREAT Juneau whale watching boat tour. Dozens of humpbacks, lots of porpoises, eagles, sea lions, seals, etc. A whale breached directly in front of our boat- actually splashed the boat!!!!!! NCL would have charged extra for that if only they had known it would happen!!!!!!

GREAT Bears roaming all over in Juneau. Less

Cabin review:

AC penthouse suite- back of ship. Huge balcony and bathroom, separate living room and bedroom- great for 3 or 4 roommates. Had separate access to balcony, bathroom and front door so you could come and go with little disturbence to others. BAD sofa bed- bring own airbed like we did. Good regular beds.
