My daughter and I (54 & 21) flew with Virgin from London to San Francisco for 3 nights to break up a long flight and to start getting into the right time zone. We then flew with Hawaiian Airways to Honolulu - brilliant airline, nice large seats and great crew. We stayed at the HHV, Tapa Tower, with a great view of the ocean, for two nights prior to our cruise Loved the hotel. Just chilled out the first day exploring the hotel grounds and going to the beach, had a rental car for a day and went to Hanauma Bay and drove up to North Shore, my daughter had a surf lesson booked for the next day, after which we chilled at the beach for the rest of the day prior to boarding the ship at 5pm. Taxi took us to the port and embarkation was very quick as it was later in the day. As soon as we were onboard we went to our cabin to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised as had read bad reviews on cabin size, cleanliness, etc. Thought there was more than adequate storage space, everything was clean and there were beach towels laid out on the bed and packets of coffee, etc with the coffee machine. Beds were comfy and we had plenty of space. On our way to our cabin staff were all welcoming and spoke to us. We then explored the ship and had some food at the Cadillac Diner. Staff there were very friendly and asked us where we came from and the food arrived quite quickly. Back to the cabin to unpack and tidy up ready for sailing. We did not book any ship excursions and booked rental cars from the UK with Dollar for every stopover to do our own thing. I had managed to locate the "Revealed" books for every island and we followed these, stopping at eateries and places of interest they recommended which all worked out well. Sunday, MAUI - Collected car and drove road to Hana which took us 10 hours! Stopped at waterfalls, beaches, etc and it was great fun, bit Thelma and Louise, two ladies in a convertible. Ate at buffet when got back as was shattered and had an early start next day. Monday - Sunrise and bike ride - Unfortunately, once at the top of Haleakala Crater at 4am the weather was terrible and we didn't see the sunrise as it was blowing a gale and raining and freezing cold. We went with Phil's Cruisers, who then took us down to about 6000ft to begin our descent by bike. I was totally nervous about doing this but was determined to do it, therefore, had a go and enjoyed every minute, feeling safe with our guides. If in doubt of this activity, give it a go you will love it. Once back at sea level we collected our car and headed to the beach for some down time. Ate at Skyline, although the service was just a little bit slow our waitress kept us informed and entertained constantly on when our food would be arriving. They were very busy. Tuesday - HILO - Collected car and visited the VNP then went to a black sand beach where we saw turtles asleep and in the water, called in at macadamia nut factory on way back. Ate at Liberty, no wait and service quite quick as it didn't seem as busy as Skyline was the previous evening. Watched lava flow sailby that evening, unfortunately it rained but still got some good footage. Wednesday - KONA - Tender quick and efficient, collected car and headed for Hapuna beach. Stayed there a while and then moved on to Mauna Kea where we had the beach practically to ourselves and there were loads of fish. We then went on to another beach, name of which I can't recall but there were loads of turtles there. Had a quick snack and drink at Cadillac Diner when got back on ship, once again staff friendly, said it was nice to see us again and chatted with us. Ate at Liberty again and staff welcomed us back. Watched end of magic show and then went to White Night at nightclub. Thursday - KAUAI - Had a flight booked over the island with Air Ventures who collected us a 9.15am. This was a great way to see the interior of the island other than by helicopter, which I didn't fancy. After flight collected car and drove to Kee Beach. Went to staff show in evening, parts of which were hilarious and very enjoyable. Ate at Aloha Buffet. Friday - Went to Poipu Beach Park, lots of fish but a very strong current. Back to ship and relaxed on deck before packing and waiting for Napali coast sailby, which was fantastic. Went to Liberty again and once again staff recognized us and welcomed us back. Caught the end of the show which was quite funny and went to nightclub, which was empty, had a drink in Pink Champagne Bar and went to bed. Saturday - Disembarkation - We booked to leave the ship at 9am and everything went very smoothly, in fact they called us a 8.40 so we were away early, waited for Dollar to collect us as we had another 2 day stopover in Waikiki, staying this time at the Resortquest Waikiki Beach, which was also very nice, especially their cool bags for breakfast take out. Went to Pearl Harbour then drove to beaches at Ko Olina which were lovely, we then drove up the east coast. Next day drove to Pali lookout for great views and then went to beaches at North Shore, drove back on H3 which was fantastic, drove Tantalus Road and Top View which was great for views over the city. Monday - Had breakfast on beach and a final swim before leaving for LA for 3 nights before our flight home on Thursday. I must admit I was wary of this cruise but we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend it to anyone. The clientele were mainly more elderly, therefore, there was not much late night action, however, we crammed so much into our days we were too tired by the end of the day to party. We found all crew to be very friendly and helpful towards us, the ship was clean and well maintained. Ports of call were excellent. Food was good with plenty of choice and something for every taste. We didn't bother with the speciality restaurants as we felt the inclusive ones were perfectly adequate. Would recommend the Revealed books and we saw lots of other people following them while we were on our trips. We had a great time in Hawaii and would love to revisit sometime. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to email me and I will try and answer. Aloha
