Explorer of the seas is a great ship! If your not looking for a GIANT ship, go with other ships. It is great ship for families, and some couples. Things that make this ship big are rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, basketball court, mini golf course, 2 floor spa, like 50 bars and restaurants, 3 story dinning room, and much, much more. If you like nightlife go to the Viking Crown Lounge for more laid back, and the Chamber for dancing late night. The Coral theater is the main theater. The comedy acts are great, but the musicals are kinda small.
The itinerary was great! It left from Cape Elizabeth, Bayyone, NJ (near Newark, went to New London,CI/Newport, RI;Halifax, Nova Scotia; Saint John, New Brunswick; Bar Harbor, MA; Portland; and Boston, MA. If you like days at sea this cruise did not have many for 9 days (2 at sea). All the ports were amazing except Portland. It was because of our tour. The tour guide was pitiful and it was poring rain. She pointed out where her friend works, who wants to know that? Although the Portland headlight was a sight to see. Also in Halifax go to the near Peggy's Cove fishing village. It is so cool. With all the traps and boats there.
On the cruise the food was not the best ( in the main dinning room). Though the service in restaurants was great. The waiters (if you have kids) do all kinds of things, like origami, funny jokes, and napkin hats. The best food on board was in Portofino, the specialty restaurant (20$ charge). The desert is very good in all restaurants. Try the soft serve ice cream by the pool on deck 11. Also try the cookies in Cafe Promenade.Although the stateroom attendants were not good. He didn't make up our room, even though we asked him to. Overall the ship would get a 8 on a scale from 1 to 10. The fitness center had a clear floor for things like yoga, spinning and Tai Chi. And then a whole different area with machines. I think the ship was great!
