This was my 5th cruise and my husbands 2nd having previously cruised on Princess, NCL and RCI so we do have some experience of cruising, I have cruised with NCL once before and have to say we were both disappointed with the NCL Sun.

EMBARKATION - We arrived the previous day into Vancouver so got a taxi from our hotel to the cruise terminal at 12.00, it took us 2 hours to clear all areas before we got onto the ship but it was an organized process. We had a complimentary drink in the atrium then headed straight for our cabin where our bags were waiting for us.....Good start!

CABIN - Our cabin was good, clean and spacious we had alot of luggage and everything fitted in just fine. Our stewards were great no complaints and there tip is thoroughly deserved they work very hard. We had a balcony cabin on deck 9 and if your cruising Alaska a balcony is a must scenery was fantastic! Watching whales pass us by as we were sitting on our balcony whilst cruising to Tracy Arm. When coming into port in San Francisco we sailed under the Goldengate bridge and passed Alcatraz all viewed from our balcony great pictures and memories we will cherish forever. FOOD & DRINK - Like most people have written the buffet was a disaster zone people everywhere not enough seating not my idea of a relaxing meal, we got our lunch here once and I got an added extra in my pasta a HAIR! A dark short curly hair and as my hair is long and brown it clearly didn't belong to me, I reported it to the maitre'd immediately he did give us a complimentary bottle of wine with dinner but I cannot excuse a hair in my food- DISGUSTING! Needless to say I lost my appetite and we didn't eat there again. We mainly ate in the great outdoors cafe for breakfast and lunch it was a nice relaxed atmosphere and the food was good and found a seat easily, however most of the time there were no mugs for hot drinks and you had to either wait quite a while or find one elsewhere. We ate in all of the main restaurants food was good but mainly luke warm or cold, and whilst eating in the restaurants we did here many passengers complaining about there food being cold. We ate in the East meets West speciality restaurant twice food and service exceptional well worth the extra money. Drinks were reasonably priced at $1.75 for a can of soda $4.50 for a bottle of beer. Dress codes are very mixed in the restaurants even on formal evenings not many people dressed formally but that is the NCL freestyle concept.
