As we prepared to sail with Viking River Cruises for the 3rd time, there were no reviews on this ship that we could find. I promised to write one upon our return so it would made the decision to sail or not to sail on the Neptune easier for future travelers. I have to say "Sail" on this ship - the ship itself is very nice & very clean. It has an outstanding crew that feels like family right away. It is apparent that all crew members enjoy their jobs & that they are there to meet all the passengers needs. The itinerary was the main reason that we selected this trip. I am sorry that I had to select Budapest as our starting port & British Isles/Western Europe as our destination because Eastern Europe was not an option offered on the list. A pre-trip was Bucharest/Transylvania, Romania which was excellent. We had tours in both places with an excellent guide. Other places we visited while in this ares were Brasov located at the foot of tha Carpathian Mts., Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site & a tour of Bran Castle (known as Dracula's Castle). Our ship sailed out of Oltenita in late afternoon on the Danube River going toward the Black Sea. The stops on this cruise included: Silistra,Bulgaria - Russe & Veliko Tarnovo - Vidin - Belgrade,Serbia - Kaloesa,Hungary - Budapest - Bratislava,Slovakia - Vienna,Austria - Melk - Passau,Germany - Regendburg - and ending in Nuremberg. Each place was a great adventure with most excursions included. Our post trip was Prague with leisure time & planned tours included.Visiting the Charles Bridge with artist selling their creation, Wenceslas Square with all of its shops, restaurants & pubs, Hradcany (or Prague) Castle with its Gothic St, Vitus' Cathedral were all a travelers dream. The best part of traveling on this river ship is seeing up close & personal many places on the Danube that could only be reached by car or bus. And remember unpacking once is "A GOOD THING" ! I highly recommend river cruising & the Viking Neptune !
