Background  we are both in our 50's taking our first cruise. We chose NCL for the free styling concept and the itinerary for our love of New England and Canada, especially in the fall. We live in NYC so there was no extra expense in getting to Pier 88 as our son dropped us off and picked us up.

Embarkation/Disembarkation - was a breeze. From the time we entered the terminal (12 Noon) until we boarded the Dawn, 15 minutes had not passed. Same goes for exiting. Tendering was a breeze in Bar Harbor; not so in Newport. Passengers arriving from the stairs or elevators ignored the tendering line which was going up the stairs. There should have been a crew member at the end of the line directing people.

Stateroom- was beautiful. We had a balcony on aft deck 9 and spent an awful lot of time on the balcony. Shower was great with plenty of hot water. Bed was extremely comfortable with 2 massive and 2 regular size pillows. Coffee maker worked fine. Five nights we received the animal towels along with 2 chocolate mints. The channels on the television were rather limited so the next time we will be bringing a portable radio and tune into some local station if only for a little diversity. I used to love the Moody Blues' Nights in White Satin. Not anymore. The "View From The Bridge" channel played it ad nauseam........in a foreign language no less. Stewards Errol and Frank kept the room spotless, delivered fruit daily, emptied the fridge upon request, delivered ice daily and tended to our every need. This being our first cruise, we were shocked as to how hard the stewards, waiters, waitresses, maintenance, et al worked and did it with a smile on his/her face. Some passengers either leave their manners at home or simply don't possess them. We witnessed one group of 30-somethings asking for waiter service at the Garden Cafe-on Day 5 of the cruise! Nobody in the group was physically handicapped and there weren't any children to mind that one of the group couldn't fetch the water. Somebody left about 5 dishes with leftovers outside their room so everybody had to navigate around it. Eventually a woman in a wheelchair tried to pass by the garbage and scattered all the plates in the hallway. Others talk so loud we know all about their families, children, stepchildren, houses, jobs, political views that we could do without.
