After much anticipation, myself, wife, and two adult daughters arrived in Seattle for our Sep 12th cruise to Alaska. Arrived one day early and checked into the Hotel Andra. The Andra is a small hotel four blocks from the waterfront and market. Left hotel in am and arrived at ship at approx 11:00. Was not there 15 minutes and it was time to board. Great way to start. Lunch in Windjammer, and room available at 1:00 PM. Heard about balcony on 8088, but until you see it, you cannot imagine how big it actually is. It literally is 30' long, wrapping around on the port side. It ranges from 8' deep to 5' deep. No wind, and great views all around. It is covered, and protected from the rain. SHIP: In good shape. Cabin was great. Storage all over the place. Public rooms very nice. As you would expect on newer ship. Entertainment: Singer Sean O'Shay was fantastic. Best entertainer that I have seen on 9 cruises with RCCL. Impersonations, songs, touch of comedy. Bring him back. Spend partial evening in Schooner Bar, and cannot understand what people see in Derek Lewis. Like a one trick pony. Keep repeating same lines over and over. Food: Ate in dining room twice for breakfast, windjammer rest of time. Took forever to get an omelette cooked. Had two cooks with two pans each. Lines up to 10 deep. Should have another station. Food in main dining room was fine. Other than the filet on 1st formal night it was good. Filet was sliced. Not like they used to serve, and now you can only get a good one in Chops or Portofino's, which we did not have on Rhapsody. Enough variety to make dinners interesting, and never went away hungry. Beverage man (Do Run Run) who should replace Derek Lewis. Chinese version of Robin Williams. Kept us laughing all week, and sold great shooters. Excursions: In Juneau, went to salmon hatchery and mendenhall glacier. Rained all day, which took something away from trip. Did not get to see glacier plainly, but not a bad place to visit. In Skagway, took white pass railway. Great 3 hour trip, and views were magnificent. Neither Town did much for me. Last place visited,Prince Rupert, my wife Mary and two daughters went on canoe and rainforest walk. Afterward, they had fresh crabs and smores. They loved it. Was their best. Service: Kept up the traditions of RCCL. Bennie (cabin was great), and Joseph and Maria in dining room were fine. Had table of 12, and did not get that much time to talk to them, and they were running around like the energizer bunnies. Vancouver- Spent one night there before coming home. Gastown was nice, but it was the only thing there that impressed me. More homeless people than I have ever seen. Don't care to return. Overall: Scenery in Alaska is something that everyone should see once in their lifetime. Cruising through the Tracey Arm Fjord was beautiful. Glacier was blue as could be. Awesome views. Now that I have seen it, do not believe that I would go back on cruise. Maybe land trip, but one cruise is enough. All in all, worth every penny though, ONCE.
