We, a party of 6, our four off-spring, eldest 38 years, two 28 years and youngest 26years, celebrating my husband`s forthcoming 70th birthday. We traveled from the UK and spent a comfortable night at the Wyndham Hotel in Miami. We reached the terminal at 1.10pm and boarding was a breeze - within half and hour we were exploring the ship and our staterooms were ready. As our 4 `kids`were virgin cruisers, we were interested to see what they made of this floating wonder. Needless to say their initial reaction was Wow! and they were immediately won over by the size, room and opulence. The Windjammer, as expected was crowded, but this settled down after Day 1. It offered choice, variety and convenience. Hurricane Ike was on everyone`s thoughts, but we need not have worried. RCI made the decision to alter the itinerary, and did a wonderful job in ensuring sunny skies and calm seas. The captain took the decision to cancel our scheduled stop in Grand Cayman, in the interests of safety, and instead we had a further enjoyable day at sea. The food in dining room was varied and adequate portions, but not brilliant. Chops Grille`s food was superb. The service was outstanding and value for money. Johnny Rockets was great fun, and well worth the cover charge. The ship seemed to be full, but finding a sunbed was never a problem. Our kids loved the ice show, but did not get around to doing all the activities, as there was so much variety. On our final sea day, there was a food festival in the promenade, which was a nice surprise, as we could try all the national dishes, such as Irish stew, chocolate cakes, apple pie etc., which made a very different lunch. Cozumel - was our first port of call and the weather was glorious. We took a horse-drawn carriage outside the pier to the town centre, which was a sedate and cool way of seeing the sights of the resort. We had a tequila in a local bar and got a cab back to the ship. That was all on the spur of the moment unplanned and worked out well. Our next stop was Ocho Rios, instead of Montego Bay in Jamaica, due to hurricane Ike. Again we took a local bus to Dunns River Falls from the pier, which was beautifully cool and scenic with the foliage. A local driver took us up to the rain forest and we saw the natural way of life and culture. We ate at a local restaurant and tried a jerk burger and drank red stripe beer. It was a nice way of doing it, as we dictated our own day. Labadee, Haiti was our final place to visit, tendered to the beach, and it lived up to all our expectations, having read the reviews. Again the weather was glorious, the sea inviting and the temperature perfect and the labaduzees refreshing. A perfect day. We all had inside cabins, which gave us all we needed. All the staff were helpful and cheerful and worked extremely hard. We got the feeling they were over-stretched at times, coping with so many passengers but this did not appear to dampen their enthusiasm. All in all the new cruisers in our party have now been bitten by the cruise bug and gave a huge thumbs up to the whole venture. A super and enjoyable cruise and here's to the next one on Oasis.
