We are a married couple in our 40's who had been recommended to cruises by a friend so although we had some background information we did not know what to really expect. After booking we came across various reviews that were less than complimentary about Costa Concordia so it was with some trepidation that we embarked.
Embarkation at Savona was a joy, with only a 5 minute wait, then it was onto the ship being directed straight to our cabin. The cabin was small but perfectly clean, the cabin steward was most friendly and addressed us by name all the time. The cabin had a TV with webcam feed to a webcam both front and rear which was handy without any windows as we were in an inside cabin.
Evening food was excellent and the waiting staff attentive and friendly. Daytime food was adequate and plentiful. There has been mention in previous reviews about smoking - this was not a problem. A few people smoked but it was not intrusive.
The decks were cramped with all the sunbeds and the pool area was small but we did not really consider this an issue as there was always somewhere to sunbath where it was not so crowded.
The entertainment during the day was perhaps Butlins-like however the evening shows were very professional and very enjoyable.
The itinerary was eagerly anticipated however Tunis was a major disappointment. The taxi driver drove through many poorer areas on the way to the Medina and the Medina itself was not so pretty as other Medinas we have seen previously. We feel Tunis should be dropped from the itinerary however we enjoyed the other stops particular La Valletta. We did not partake of any of the organized tours.
The Samsara suite was excellent although not cheap. My wife had a facial massage and a hot stone massage which came to just short of £80 each but apparently worth every penny.
All in all a most enjoyable holiday and the bug has bitten in that we are now looking for our next cruise and we would be perfectly happy to cruise with Costa again
