Well, not only was this my first time sailing with a child (2 1/2 yr old) It was also must first time sailing Carnival. I have sailed Princess, NCL, and RCCL so I knew I was in for a bit of a different atmosphere...especially with a 5 day cruise. Check in was seamless and there were plenty of porters to attend to the luggage in Long Beach. Our room, while not as deluxe as other cruise lines, was clean and Rodney steward was attentive and pleasant. There is no "Supper Club" on this vessel, so an upgraded meal was not possible, but the food was still average to above average. It was nice to carry on a couple of bottles of wine without being charged...a real perk! (One per Adult).

I had read many reviews about Camp Carnival prior to leaving on this trip. I really did not think I would use it that often...but to the contrary, my son loved it! They had face painting and dancing and I brought home several "art" projects. Initial check in for the camp leaves something to be desired as you are all crammed into one hot hallway, but at the same time, that tiny hallway limits access to the children. I did not do the after hours babysitting or get babysitting when I was not on the ship, so I can not attest to those hours or days.

All in all-a great trip! Good service and a pleasant atmosphere for the toddler. It did takes us a few extra hours to get off the ship (not sure why) and there is only one plug in the room for anything requiring a higher voltage(blow dryer/laptop) and it is NOT in the bathroom...strange.
