Sail Date: May 2004

Our cruise was from May 15 through the 22nd, 2004. Our vacation got off to a rough start, with cancelled and delayed flights. When we finally made it to Ft. Lauderdale the night before sailing, we only hoped that the glitches for this cruise were over. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66, which we reserved through Priceline for $70 per night. The room was on the waterway, with "Yacht Row" right outside our sliding glass door. Made for a nice walk after dinner and we had breakfast on the "veranda" as well. Cab fare to the hotel was about $12 and another $12 to the pier the next morning.

Embarkation was remarkably smooth. Make sure you have the forms filled out before you arrive. You'll offload your luggage (which you have tagged with the cruise line tags), enter the terminal, fill-in your credit card form and show your passports, get your SeaPass cards (room key and onboard account card), then walk to the gangway. We were on the ship within 20 minutes of arriving at the port. Our tickets said to arrive no earlier than noon, so we got there at about 12:30 pm. No lines....very smooth. Just a note: they take a lot of pictures of you while on the cruise. Picture #1 is coming up as you are about to enter the gangway. There is no charge, so you might as well let them do it. Of course, there is a charge is you decide to buy the picture later on. Pictures are displayed in a "gallery" for the entire cruise. You insert your SeaPass and the computer snaps your picture for security, and you are officially on vacation!

We made our way to the room on the Vista deck. It was ready when we got there. Bigger than I had imagined, and the bathroom was large enough (the shower was even big given other cruise line standards). We had an oceanview room, and the window turned out to make a considerable difference during the cruise. It was great to see the ports as we entered them in the early morning without leaving the cabin. Plus, the weather report was right behind the curtain. We loved being high up on the ship as it was a short walk to the Pool deck, where you will spend a considerable amount of time whether you swim or not. The cabin attendants were fantastic during the entire cruise. They must have checked the room about four times per day. We often took showers in the afternoon to clean up after snorkeling excursions, and fresh linens were always stocked quickly. Unpack quickly, slide the luggage under the bed, and it's off to the Pool deck for frozen drinks and sailing! You'll spend the first two days learning the lay of the ship. That is a fun activity as we, at least, never fully had it mapped out in our heads. You'll make wrong turns, swear the front is the back and so forth, but that is part of the fun.
