Ship Facts: Explorer of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Explorer of the Seas Deck Plans
Explorer of the Seas - Western Caribbean
Embarkation: No problem. We got there around 1:30 or 2 p.m. and it was just a short wait.

Public areas: Very nice. Bathrooms were clean as was the entire ship. We spent lots of time in the hot tubs and around the pools. The adult solarium is nice, but it is space limited. The hot tub in the solarium was much hotter than the ones by the "general" pool. Deck chairs around the pool fill up quick when at sea. We didn't have any problem getting a good seat on the days we were in port.

Cabin: Excellent. We had a junior suite. Plenty of room. We like these new ships that have lots of balconies. Perfect if someone wants to nap while the other can slip out and read or relax. Cool towel animals left by our attendant.

Shore Excursions: Well. Belize - what can you say. They have to tender there and it was about a 15 minute ride to shore. We went on a 2.5 hour (one way) bus trip to some ruins. It was neat, but the bus trip was a bit much. Our guide talked too much. Too much information. It was just too long. It was supposed to last 7 hours but it was more like 9. They held the ship for us.

Costa Maya: Better in that they dock there. Neat area near the dock full of shops, crafts, a pool and the beach. We did some shopping, but took it easy after the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in Belize. Hint, don't shop at the craft shops right off the pier, walk five minutes to the back shops and the prices are better. Get ready to haggle.

Cozumel: Another docking place. Lots of shopping and we did the dolphin tour. Very nice park where the dolphins are. Nice beach and seems like lots to do there. If we had known about it, probably would have just gone to the park. Don't get me wrong, the dolphins were neat. Ate lunch at Poncho's Backyard. It was ok, but priced for tourists - $$$.

Grand Cayman: Very short tender ride there. Lots of shopping and it is the place to buy liquor. We went to Stingray city. Very cool. Kinda freaky at first, the stingrays are like cats. They come right up to you. Lots of people in the water, but it was fun.

Dining: The main dining room was good. Our waiter, Sanjeev, was very nice. The Windjammer buffet was where we usually ate breakfast and it was fair. We did go to Johnny Rocket's for a milkshake and fries and it was good.

Entertainment: The "professional" shows we much better than those done by RCL. I'd skip the Ice Show. Kinda dorky. But hey, if you are into it then fine. The RCL shows were song and dance shows that we just didn't get into. The Love and Marriage game show was a hoot. Don't miss it.

Fitness & Recreation: We did the rock climbing and it was fun. On days at sea, you will need to get there at least 45 minutes early to start lining up. It fills up fast. Very fun.

Overall, we had a good time. The ship is very large and nice. Hope you like climbing stairs. The food was ok, but not over the top. I think they might change going to Belize, but maybe others had a better time there.

Have fun!
