There were six of us in two cabins. Two adults and one child in each cabin for a short birthday cruise. This was our 8th cruise and we have sailed on NCL several times before, as well as RCL, HAL, and Disney. Freestyle cruising suits us as we like the freedom of dining when we want and where we want. Our cabin was an outside on the 8th floor mid-ship. The room was a bit smaller then the other ships we have been on, but that was already expected. We had asked for the beds to be split into twins and upon arrival they were not. We also expected the third bed to be one of the fold down's. Apparently they only have them in the rooms for four people. My son slept on the pullout sofa. This normally would not have been a problem except that when the sofa bed was in use, it completely blocked access to the bathroom from the other two beds. I literally had to climb over my son in the middle of the night! I did notice on the last day when housekeeping was stripping the beds that some mattresses were pillow top, ours were not. I asked for a mattress pad which they did bring and it helped a little bit. Very hard beds in our cabin! There was a refrigerator, but it was filled with bar and soda products to purchase. There was no room to store any of the bottled water we had brought on board with us. There is not much in the way of storage options. We are light packers and usually like to unpack our suitcases. We hung up some clothing, but most stayed in the suitcases which were then stored under the beds. I don't believe the floor was ever vacuumed. However, I did see other room stewards vacuuming. There was a slight smell of urine in the bathroom, but it seemed to be clean. I think it may come from the venting in the bathroom? As other reviewers have noted, the ship still looks mostly like it did when it was the POA. The biggest change appears to be the addition of a casino. It had all the standard tables and slot games. They do allow smoking and the ventilation wasn't very good. We attended the comedy show on the last night and the comedian was very funny...a hilarious interpretation of The Wizard of Oz with passenger participation. Bingo was standard fare...a bit on the expensive side and the only way to win the large jackpot prize was within 46 calls. I would guess this hardly ever happens. The food on the ship was not the best, particularly in the buffet areas. We did enjoy our breakfast in Crossings. We paid extra to eat in Cagney's which was very good and Ernesto our waiter was excellent. The other 3 people in our party were in cabin 4224 (an outside cabin) and on the second day a loud banging noise started around noon and was still going on at 11 pm. After repeated complaints, they were finally moved to another cabin on the 8th floor. I found this irritating since I had asked several times the first day if there were any extra cabins available on the 8th floor (where we were located) and was told a resounding "no" each time. I offered to pay any extra fees so that we would be closer together and was told that no cabin was available. Obviously that was not true, as they were reassigned to cabin 8258 (also an outside cabin). The other guests in my party were given no help in the move and no apology for the inconvenience. The "banging" was due to work they were doing on the ship in that area. After some additional complaints, a letter arrived on our last day stating that we would all get a free dinner in the restaurant of our choice. The only problem was the restaurants were almost completely booked by that time. We were able to get a reservation at Le Bistro due to a cancellation. The food was good, but the service not so much. I think our waitress wrote us off once she read the letter stating that our meal was going to be complimentary. Even so, we made sure to tip on what the full amount would have been had it not been free. We enjoyed our time in Nassau and wish it could have been more. I purchased a room at the Comfort Suites (which we didn't use) but it got us access into The Atlantis at a much better rate then we would have had if we booked through the ship. Everyone enjoyed the Dig and the water slides. The private island was o.k....more of a camp ground feel to it then other private islands we have been to. HAL and Disney have very nice PL's. The snorkeling was so so. We brought our own gear, but were required to rent a vest for $5 each. The beach was very crowded and the tenders needed could have been better timed, but the walking trail on the island was interesting and not too crowded. One last note, they shut down the AC about 3:00 pm on the last full day (8/17) to work on it. The ship got very humid and warm. People left their cabins to get some air on deck. My cabin had a slight smell of urine and sewage at that point. It got much better when the air came back on about 7:00 pm. The Captain apologized and promised to make it "icy cold" from then on.
