I have "lurked" on this site for a couple of years and have been so appreciative of the honesty and advice that I wanted to give back a little with my own review of our recent trip on the gorgeous Norwegian Pearl. Since there are several other very thorough reviews of the ship and Alaska itinerary, I will try to cover some items for which I didn't see as much detail in other postings.
First, about us: I am a woman in my 30's and my husband (I'll call him HB for the purposes of this posting) is quite a bit older. We don't have any children. This is our second cruise together and my third; we are fairly active and are wildlife enthusiasts. We are non-drinkers, non-smokers, non-gamblers, and non-jewelry-aholics - so a lot of what cruising offers is not of interest to us. We love the ocean, however, and I grew up doing a lot of sailing off the coast of Maine, so we tend to be interested in the "logistics" of the ship and its itinerary.
All in all, we had a wonderful cruise - the ship still feels new and we were extremely lucky with great weather and wildlife sightings. I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone; there is something for everyone regardless of your interests. Note: Alaska is, more often than not, COLD. It also rains frequently and can be windy, so bring a fleece or down jacket, a waterproof jacket with a hood, and gloves. We spent more time in long-sleeve microfiber shirts and turtlenecks than we did in shorts and t-shirts.
