I'll make this brief because I hate reading reviews that discuss every minor detail ad nauseam. Let me first preface by saying this was my second cruise. My first was with Norwegian in the Caribbean. After having sailed with Princess, I'll never go NCL again.

Embarkation: A complete breeze. We got to the port shortly before 11am and were on the boat before Noon...cabin ready and all. Service on board was exceptional in every way. Had our 13 year old son with us and he had a ball. He did not participate in organized activities but instead hung out with people he met up with. His only complaint was lack of a basketball hoop. Ship is huge and therefore there are so many places to relax without a crowd. Classical music always playing and decor was very relaxing and aesthetically pleasing. Totally different and better educated crowd on this cruise...i.e.,no partying trailer trash at all hours. I loved how the cruise director never got on the intercom to announce every blasted event. People were expected to read their nightly newsletters to find out what was happening the next day.

Important note about the food: I've read SO MANY complaints about the food. Honestly, the food was ok both in the dining room and at the buffet. I think too often people expect a Michelin dining experience and guess what folks...the cruise ship is just a glorified cafeteria no matter where you eat. They're cooking for almost 3,000 people so get real. You won't have the meal of a lifetime but you certainly won't starve. Drinks were very modestly priced I thought in comparison to NCL. As an Italian mutt I personally enjoyed the Italian dinner night the best and I'm a gal who makes my own pasta and sauce from scratch. Again, don't go expecting a five star restaurant and you won't be disappointed. Skip Sabatini's though...that was a waste of extra money and food not worth it. Our cabin was a balcony in the very back of the ship...QUIET! and the great thing was being in Alaska we could see both sides of the shore. Plenty of room and immaculately clean. Jesus our steward was impressive.

Quiet location, extra big balcony with nice furniture. Best room on the boat as far as I'm concerned.
