We are first time cruisers in out 60's. Chose Alaska as all reports we heard were nothing but great. So we did the 7 day Northbound and 4 day inland.
The start of the trip was not very accommodating. Bus trip from VYR to Sutton Place was some 2 1/2 hours and we passed the hotel on 2 occasions. Accommodations at Sutton Place were outstanding. As we were tired after a long day of travelling we opted to eat locally and asked the concierge for recommendations for Asian food. The Azia was recommended and we found a good value with a variety of Asian dishes. It was just blocks away from Sutton Place. This area of Vancouver was filled with cigarette littered sidewalks. Does everyone smoke in Vancouver? The next AM was departure day and the Board at hotel stated Guide would be available at 8 AM. She arrived at 10:15 and were advised to meet the bus at 11AM. We then stood on sidewalk outside until 12:15 The lady guide stayed away from the group and offered no explanation or direction.
Boarding the Millennium was very efficient and must faster than expected. We were welcomed aboard with mimosas and proceeded to the buffet to await our stateroom. It seemed that little time has passed and it was announced our room was ready. We expected a smaller room and found it very clean. On the table was a bowl of fresh fruit, flowers and a bottle of iced champagne. The veranda was very small (not 41 sq ft) but we survived as Alaska was cold. The closet space and bath fit our needs. Canapes arrived daily at 4PM. Our room stewards were outstanding.
