The Emerald Princess was our second cruise and first time on Princess. We enjoyed every aspect of our trip. With this review I hope to help others with a few tips. Our trip started in Venice with no connection with Princess Cruises. Our hotel was Ca Angelic and was found on trip advisor. Highly recommended. We found embarkation onto the ship confusing due to either our travel agent or Princess not giving us clear directions. Or we didn't find out but we remind folks to be sure to know how you get to the ship, and how the whole program works. The ship is very large, 3000 passengers. But at no time did we feel crowded. In every way Princess does its best to make you feel like you are an individual on the trip not just part of mass. The pools are excellent with lots of space. I often swam by myself in a large pool where I felt I could do laps. Our stateroom had a balcony which we used frequently to relax. But we never took meals there. This cruise is very port oriented. A stop every day. We would recommend going on the roll call and finding a group doing things that you are interested in doing. We were able to do excursion at half the cost of the Princess programs by working with groups of people we met from Cruise Critic. Here are our recommendations for ports- Dubrovnik-On your own. Easy town to just walk around Corfu-Take a tour of the grottos. Most beautiful water in the world. Visit the Palace with views that can't be beat. Olympia-Be sure to get a guide. The ruins only come alive when someone is explaining what took place. Athens-We booked a walking tour found on trip advisor. Be careful as two members of our party were pickpocketed on the train. Mykonos-We rented an ATV while others rented a scooter. Great way to get around the whole island. Ephesus-Again, be sure to have a guide to help you learn the stories of the ruins. Rhodes-Many people just explored the town which was excellent. We also visited Lindos and again witnessed great views of beaches and beautiful waters. Santorini-We sailed on a Catamaran found on trip advisor. Others travelled to the other communities to see the blue dome churches. Everything you do here will be spectacular. Naples-Use DriveAmalfi and get out of Naples. Tour Amalfi Coast and of course Pompeii which also needs a guide. Rome-We flew home. However we recommend Angel Tours as a great walking tour of the area. Here are our few downsides for this cruise. We were disappointed that Princess chooses to sell ice cream as opposed to having some available for free. We also find the internet service expensive and not user friendly. Most of our money was spent trying to sign on. The food was average but the service was excellent throughout the ship. Lots of nickel and diming throughout the cruise. 6 euros to take a short shuttle to a place that you then have to walk to get into Mykonos. There were a couple of these. Highly recommend this cruise and these ports.
