We dancers were well catered for sailed on the Norwegian Jade to the eastern med expecting to have a great holiday. The boarding started reasonably well until an alarm went off on the boarding walkway and the embarkation crew couldn`t decide what to do. Once on board we found our cabin quite satisfactory although we had to find it ourselves. After 3 hours we finally had our luggage delivered only to find one of our case handles broken with no apology. The self service restaurant (the garden cafe) left a lot to be desired as the food was usually luke warm at best and very repetitive and geared to American tastes. At busy times they regularly ran out of plates, cutlery, and fruit juices, not that you could get fruit juice after breakfast.Seating space was always hard to find. The other restaurants were not as crowded but the menu was somewhat limited and several carried a surcharge of $15 per person. The entertainment was varied from very good to poor. The best show was Smoky Joe`s Cafe and the best entertainer was undoubtedly W T Greer, a fantastic singer/pianist, but we just could not understand why the insisted on hiding the live band behind a curtain. Dancers were well catered for at various venues throughout the ship from ballroom to disco. We booked 4 excursions whilst on board which we found very expensive, the first of which was a 4hr trip to Monaco & Monte Carlo which was a waste of money. We had 15 mins in Monaco and 25 mins in Monte Carlo the coach travel took app 25 mins each way and the rest of the time was spent walking through underground car parks.Onour return we cancelled all our other excursions and complained so strongly they returned all of our payments including the cost of the excursion we had just taken. All the other destinations we did using local transport saving a fortune. When it came to tipping there was an automatic $10 per person per day surcharge added to your bill. This we objected to , preferring to decide ourselves who to tip. What wasn`t broadcast by the cruise line was that you could opt out by simply asking and signing a form. On the final day at sea there was a constant 20 mtr line of people at the reception desk throughout the day mostly asking for forms to opt out of the surcharge. both English & American. So we would rate this trip overall as not better than average but with a little effort and tightening up it could be very good. What we have learnt from this trip is not to take what the cruise line says as gospel, and if you feel that you are not getting what you paid for or there is a problem then complain, but in a reasonable manor and to the right person.
