Sail Date: May 2008

This was my first ever cruise. Myself, my brother and elderly father flew to Vancouver (which is quite lovely, wish we had time to explore there!). We got to the ship right at 12p and since we did the online check in, had a very quick time going through and getting on the ship. We explored and had lunch while waiting for our rooms to open at 3pm. We had a balcony room on deck 10. It was in the aft section of the boat and right next to the Royal Suite. The balcony is great!! However, because of the jutting out of our deck, of which we were right behind, we were somewhat limited in our views. We were able to see a lot of whales and dolphins and even a seal at the Hubbard Glacier. The cabin was actually bigger than I anticipated and was just fine for the 3 of us. Our stateroom attendant was very nice and attentive as well.

The ship is quite beautiful I think. A lot of glass so you can see the ocean while riding in the elevators. We loved to go up to Vortex, their night club at the very top on deck 13, and sit during the day and watch our journey. I could not believe people had enough guts to go swimming! Even with a heated pool! The getting out and into the main part of the ship would be enough to freeze my toes off! I am from Arizona though - so I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather!

For the most part, it was not "freezing". There first day we were at sea all day was quite cold and blustery due to high winds. The average day we saw temps around 57 degrees fahrenheit and it was cloudy. The very last day at sea on our return was beautiful! Around 59 degrees but sunny and just a light sweater was all my dad wore. It was quite cold at the glacier though but manageable.

Cabin Review

Ok view, very quiet, good space in closet and drawers for 1 person really. Would have preferred a forward cabin so as not to be blocked by the jetting out of the ship at midship.
