We left for Fort Lauderdale from Toronto early Saturday morning. Seven passengers and suitcases in van enroute to the airport—Grandma and Grandad, Mum and Dad and three sons 24, 20 and 18 years old. Even the suitcases were excited!! On arrival in Lauderdale we took a shuttle to Port Everglades. We were absolutely gob smacked when we got our first glimpse of the Carnival Liberty and couldn't believe this was going to be our home for the next eight days!! Embarkation was easy and hassle free. We will never forget our first ride in the glass encased elevator up through the atrium. We were so impressed when we saw the Lido deck and could only imagine how much fun this was going to be. It just got better and better for us after that. We loved our cabins. We found them to be spotless, roomy and tastefully decorated. Every night our beds were turned down and on them a copy of the Carnival Capers, the ship newspaper, telling us of the next days events. There was also a "towel" animal and some chocolate! The food was delicious! From the sumptuous buffets on the Lido deck at breakfast and lunch to the four star dining in the Silver Olympian dining room, we were never disappointed. There was pizza around the clock, frozen yogurt on deck, 24 hour room service and late night feasts. There were choices of steak, chicken, fish, pasta and delectable deserts to name a few. Our waiters were incredible and worked effortlessly to ensure that our needs were always met. They were always smiling and never ceased to entertain us Entertainment was incredible. There was a different show every night—big band, comedy and even a hypnotist. I might add that our youngest son fell under his spell and the results were hilarious! He was recognized by many on the ship after that evening!! The dancers were fun to watch and very talented. The cruise director was fantastic. There was never a dull moment—karaoke, piano lounge, disco, mini golf, spa and on deck activities. Island hopping was so much fun! Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Antigua, Tortola and Nassau. Our sons went parasailing and one of them went swimming with the dolphins, an experience that will forever leave an imprint in his mind. Palm trees, local sights and sounds, quiet beautiful beaches in abundance then back to the ship for culinary delights and more towel animals bidding us goodnight. The Legends show on the last night was the big finale of our holiday as two of our family members performed and yet again more memories were created! It was awful coming down the elevator for the last time and disembarking. Although everything went smoothly it was a sad goodbye not only for our sons who made lasting friendships but for me, my husband and my parents who will never forget this incredible holiday. Later that day, on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, we saw the Liberty leaving on it's next voyage. It won't be our last voyage though! We are already thinking of our next trip. Hopefully it won't be long before we set sail again!
