Sail Date: May 2008

We've sailed on ten different cruises and probably six different cruiselines. This was the first and last time on Carnival.

On the plus side the itinerary was great and was the main reason for choosing this cruise. In addition the weather was great all week and the ship rode quite smoothly. Having sailed quite a few times before these were important pluses.

On the minus side the Destiny is in need of a lot of basic maintenance, a lot of which is cosmetic. In the dining areas there are lots of burned out lights with no one attending to these. The cabins are dated and there seemed to be a lot of cosmetic damage to the furnishings. The maintenance staff decided to do repairs at the oddest times however, including telling guests they needed to leave their cabins while carpets were replaced. One morning at breakfast the maintenance staff decided to repair some bar stools about ten feet from a buffet line which required grinding, sanding, and welding (they absolutely couldn't have picked a worse time to do this work). Many of the elevators and beverage dispensers were broken all week with a temporarily out of order sign on them.
