10 Days on Dawn Princess Alaskan Cruise 7/30/07 - 8/9/07

We boarded in San Francisco, my beautiful hometown.

Sitka, Alaska: Be patient at this port. Cruise ships cannot actually dock at this port because it is too small. Therefore, cruise ships dock nearby, and use tenders, small boats that seat about 15 - 20 people at a time, and bring you into Sitka and back. Everyone was frustrated because they were late for their excursions. However, the excursion directors did a great job in keeping people informed of what was going on and making sure that none of our excursions would be cut short due to the delay, and we left Sitka later than planned in order to accommodate the late excursions. My boyfriend and I went sea kayaking, which was extremely frightening in the beginning, but once we figured out how essential communication was in kayaking, we finally began to enjoy it. I did not find my tour guide very helpful when we got stuck at the rocks or in the branches. However, we got along just fine by ourselves. It was amazing to see the fishing spawning, I was just nervous that the fishes jump out too close to our kayak and scare me. It was a great way to get in touch with nature. By the way the homemade chowder and cider was delicious and a great way to keep warm. Try your best to use the restroom before hand as well.
