This was a very special cruise because it was my girlfriends first ever and my eighth. I used an internet travel service which got me great rates only two weeks before departure. We drove two and a half hours and got there in plenty of time. The ship looked "bigger than life" she said and was excited to begin the adventure. The embarkation was fast and we settled down right away in our stateroom which was on deck 10 and very cozy. She wanted to explore and away we went. Found the Windjammer and she excitedly picked her choice of food to eat. The service was excellent and everyone friendly. We went to every show we could and she went to many events and always came back with a smile. Seems she had become a new "cruiser" in only three days. The crew were always helpful and friendly until we went to our first formal meal. It was then that we found that there were a lot of people not dressing for dinner and all the rules we had been told and read in all the cruise literature and our waiter telling us that coat and tie was required was not being followed. I know this isn't a show stopper but I was curious and having seen this same thing taken care of on other cruise lines I have traveled on,I asked about it as it wasn't addressed on this ship. I was told that the 20 people had missing luggage. The very next evening, I asked one of the group what had happened to her luggage and she very candidly told me that she had all her luggage but that she and her family were staying in the most expensive staterooms on the ship and that they would wear whatever they wanted to wherever they wanted and no one on the ship would dare say anything. My girlfriend looked at me and asked me why a dresscode was required if some don't have to. I think that an important part of any cruise is the atmosphere which is present on the ship and formal night does make it special. You don't have to go formal as there are other dining rooms but to let some go with tanktop and shorts makes it lose that special night feeling. Everything else on the cruise was excellent, the excursions we took in Jamaica and Cozumel were very high on my girlfriends list of favorite events. The dolphin adventure in Cozumel was the crown jewel as she still talks about it. All the public areas were kept clean and the rest of the cruise was perfect. My only suggestion would be that Royal Caribbean make up their mind as to what they are going to provide to the public. A great cruise for everyone or for just a few in the higher cost cabins. The rest of the cabins on the ship are money makers and the few expensive cabins are the gravy. Gravy by itself isn't the way to go if you want to fill the ship. By the way, because of whatever reason, we were some of the first off the ship and got away without any problems. I would suggest Royal Caribbean to anyone wanting to take a cruise as all in all, it was almost perfect.
