We had a great time on this cruise!
I travel with my mom, who I have to say is 60 ( I am 42), every year. We have cruised the last few years and have tried most high end line, with the exclusion of Seabourn. We discovered HCL last year when we did the 10 day Caribbean cruise out of NY.
So this year we decided to try the sister ship Westerdam. We were not disappointed. Although there are some differences in layout ( the Exploration cafe is up in the crows nest for one.
Also this year they introduced the "any time dining" which was great! This is one of the reasons we cruise the higher end cruises, and we very impressed with the system inplace.
Our first suite, we are now spoiled for ever! large comfortable and wonderful! The veranda holds a small dining table and two chairs along with great club chairs and ottoman plus a small table. We had drinks and Hors d'oeuvres there every night while getting ready for the evening.
Very good food and very good service. We dined with others, at our request except for one night. Formal nights (2) had great food. We also tried the Pinnacle grill the night of the BBQ (not tooo fond of that one!) and it was very good and comparable to a good steak house but with fancier french service. Amuse gueule were served before our first course and mignardise to finish the evening with our champagne - I am usually a bottomless pit when it comes to good food, and even I was stuffed after that meal!
Lido was good and clean - did not dine there however.
Islands: we had done them before so we knew what to expect. It was nice and the ports where we had to tender were well run.
Days at sea (3): As always, difficult to get chairs if you get to the aft pool after 9am - lots of chair hogs , 8 at a time for crying out loud! Other than that very nice atmosphere (SP?)
Disembarkation was fast and efficient - they give you a tag with a time to get off, and you just stay in your cabin until you have to leave all very stress free.
All in all, a great cruise! We have already booked next years' adventure on the Zuiderdam!
