My family and I (myself and husband, daughter age 8, son age 12), embarked on the Legend in late March. This was our 6th cruise, 2nd on Carnival. Important to note the 1st Carnival was on the Liberty on a European itinerary. We've done 2 Princesses, 1 Royal Caribbean, and 1 Celebrity. We chose this for the itinerary and for a great deal we got through the cruise line at the last minute, basically 2 balcony rooms side by side for the price of 1. We left out of Tampa, no problem, and got to the Port very early, waited about 1 hour and were on board by 11:30 am. First the food, amazingly good. Probably the best we've had on a cruise with the exception of Celebrity. Fruits and veggies were fresh, hot food hot, cold food cold. My kids absolutely loved the self serve soft ice cream, my son alone ate almost 40 cones over the course of our journey. The rooms were fine, typical size, balcony was very nice as we could open the divider between the rooms and have a really nice sized balcony. Our room steward was fair, she said that they had over booked the cruise but that there were several vacant rooms because most people had 3-4 in the rooms. She was working about 12 extra beds and looked exhausted by the end. No real complaints except the fact that she never showed the second to last day until bed turn down. Not that big of a deal. This was by far the smallest ship we've cruised on and I'm not sure if it was the size of the ship or the waves, but this was very rocky. They never closed any of the outside activities, but you could really feel it move. I went down to the pursers desk and got motion sickness pills, they worked like a charm. The decor was fine, the entertainment typical, we really enjoyed the hypnotist. The kids program for my 8 year old was good, although she said they "yelled a lot" and would threaten to stop the activities if the kids didn't quiet down. If you have a young daughter you know to take that with a grain of salt as they love drama, and she never hesitated to go. My son (12 year old) HATED his program. The facility was small, the videoscreen they had to play games on was about 8 inches and they had one controller. He would go down for what was on the agenda and they would tell him that they "voted and no one wants to do that so majority rules". He spent a lot of time in the room. The pools and hot tubs were filled with salt water so my kids weren't too wild about them and they were pretty small, although they never really seemed crowded. The exercise facility was nice, but small. I waited 35 minutes for a piece of cardio equipment and it was every man for himself when a piece came available. Our biggest complaint was the other passengers. These weren't spring breakers, these were adults, drinking themselves to the point of vomiting and completely neglecting their children. We had one guy puking in front of the elevators, another in the public bathrooms, another on deck. When people complained, the ship staff said there was "nothing they could do". Also, way too many shirtless men in the dining rooms and eating areas. We enjoyed ourselves, but weren't too sad to see it end. We found we like the bigger ships with more activities, and maybe a more upscale clientele.
