Hi let me start by saying we have cruised before a few times and overall it was and ok cruise. we arrived in Singapore at approx 6.30pm in the evening and got a taxi to the hotel Park Royal on Kitchener cost of taxi approx $24 singapore. hotel we booked a superior double room and on arrival got told they only had twin rooms left, the room itself was very very dated small and not what we expected,but breakfast was included with the room and that was excellent. The Park Royal is in little india part of town and has a huge shopping centre next door called mustafas which has every thing under the sun to sell there, but be warned we did see a mouse scuttling across the floor in the grocery part of the complex.
Boarding was a fiasco on the Virgo as some people had been told that we boarded at 2.30m when in fact it was 8.30pm some people told us it was near to 11pm before they actually got on board.
Cabin was nice plenty of room for hanging clothes and a clean bathroom More with separate shower sink and toilet.but on leaving singapore and picking up speed the whole cabin had a vibration that shook the whole room, we ended up putting bits of card in the ceiling parts that vibrated the most and that seemed to stop a lot of it.
next came muster drill which is a joke as there was still plenty of people wandering around the ship when every one was supposed to be at this drill no roll call or anything to see if every one was there, only at a guess did about half the passengers turn up, on this cruise there were 600 australians a few other nationalities and the rest were made up from Singapore and Asia.
there are no smoking signs all over the ship but nobody took any notice of them and when we asked a crew member to ask people to put out there cigarettes they were reluctant to do this and anyway people just ignored this and did as they pleased. dining is supposed to be free style but you had to line up in huge lines every night and morning to get your cruise card swiped to go into the dining room, when we asked why as it did cause a lot of frustrated passengers, they said it was to stop people getting two meals at different restaurants, the food tho was excellent and the staff fantastic couldn't fault them at all.
drinks on board were very reasonably priced on average from $20au for a bottle of wine cocktails $7au and we had a shipboard credit which we di dnt manage to spend all of it.
the shows on virgo are absolutely spectacular very good indeed, we enjoyed every single one of them, they also have some great live bands also on board which do a fantastic job, the cruise director is great and really seems to get every thing going.
tours we took the ho chi min city tour very good really enjoyed it be aware tho that you will be hassled to buy things especially if you visit the market, sanya we didn't like the bus took us to a coconut factory that wanted you to go through there shop which was laid out so that once you went in you had to go through the whole shop to get out, then on to a shopping mall we left early and went back to the ship which seemed to be the idea of quite a few of the other passengers as well. disembarkment what an other fiasco that was they let you off the ship only to stand in a line that snaked around the docks to get your cases and go through customs, and we had a lot of rude people on board that just pushed and shoved there way into every line without a thought for any one else,this wasn't just a one off they pushed in the restaurants and on the tours, the taxi rank was very long lines again word of warning taxi in hong kong do not take credit cards so have about $300 honk kong if you want a cab to the airport.
the virgo is a lovely ship but they need to review the dining arrangements as most people were not impressed with the long long lines waiting to get into the restaurants,breakfast lunch and dinner it was always the same.we did have a good holiday as the ship itself is really nice and the wonderful staff are a credit to the star cruise line Less
