Ok, here goes. This is long.
We arrived Sunday in San Juan about 3:30 local time. Our flights were on time and were very smooth. On the flights from Omaha to Atlanta and Atlanta to San Juan, we met a super couple from South Dakota (we're from Nebraska) who we had a great time with over the course of the cruise. It was their first cruise as well.
Now, I had read previously that some suggested just grabbing a cab and heading over to the dock. I wouldn't recommend that based on our experience. First of all, it took more time standing around by the luggage carousel waiting for our luggage than it did to find the Carnival people, get our luggage put in the transport, get on the air conditioned mini-bus, and get going to Pier 4. It was raining when we landed in San Juan, so those individuals that took taxi's to the ship had to put their baggage through some sort of check first (in the rain) then their luggage was put on a pallet next to the ship . . .which sat out in the rain. Meanwhile, our luggage arrived later that afternoon intact and nice and dry. We had no troubles at all with Carnival's transport service to the ship.
